We’ve posted about this home in the past but the price at the time kept it from selling and now it’s back in a very unusual and rare “auction”. The historic Clifford Reid house at 124 Via Monte Doro is a truly remarkable home evoking the earliest days of this great neighborhood and it embodies the glamour of “Hollywood” at the time which was partially responsible for the name of the area itself. It was built in 1928 by Clifford Reid, the visionary developer of the Hollywood Rivera. After a trip to the Italian Riviera he felt that this area of the South Bay had a similar look and feel and he envisioned an area with the surrounding beauty of the riviera with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

The highest priced closed home sale in Torrance during the month of September was located at 5531 Laurette which closed escrow at 
$1,885,000. It was located in the neighborhood of Southwood which is the area between West Torrance and South Torrance. Usually the highest priced sales are either in South Torrance or the ocean view homes in the Hollywood Riviera so this was a bit unusual. The home was a nicely remodeled 5 bedroom 5 bath single family home with a little over 4,000 square feet. What made it more special was the massive (for South Bay standards) 16,000+ foot lot that backed up to Wilderness Park. Setting the high water market for the month was the home in South Torrance at 5404 Reese Road. This is the Seaside Ranchos neighborhood also known as the Christmas Lights are. This was a beautiful home on a large lot allowing for just about everything….great square footage with 5 bedrooms while still allowing for both a sizable yard and swimming pool. Torrance is one of the more diverse cities in the South Bay when it comes to housing options. Some of the least expensive homes can be
found in Torrance as well as some of the most expensive. The highest prices are almost always found along the beachfront street known as Paseo De La Playa. 425 Paseo De La Playa has a Redondo mailing address but is actually serviced by the city of Torrance. While it’s hard to imagine a home can be a bit of a project at $12,000,000 the eventual buyer is likely to spend a healthy amount truly making this one of the more spectacular homes in the South Bay.
425 Paseo De La Playa is one of those rare legacy type homes. Perched on the bluffs above Torrance Beach, the home offers incredible and unblockable ocean views. The 28,000+ sq foot lot is unheard of in the South Bay and as with all of the homes along the west side of Paseo, the lots extend all the way to the beach, but this home has an enormous amount of land in front of the home as well. The gated entry and true estate feel make for endless possibilities.While this home is in need of some updating to truly make it a legacy home, the basics are all here.
